成衣 should be called "off-the-shelf", "ready-made", or "off-the-rack".
下面我来简单说说 Custom-made suit. Custom-made suit 又分 custom tailoring (or, to use the British term, "bespoke" tailoring) and "made to measure" 两种。 The accepted definition of bespoke or custom tailoring is "a garment cut by an individual, for an individual, and put together by an individual" An individual cut is devised for each customer, depending on his measurements and his requirements, and it will be precisely adjusted to his figure and his character. "Made to measure" tailoring means that a standard cut is adjusted as far as possible to the customer's measurements and personality. "Made to measure" tailoring 也是从头彻尾全手工制作。
我们平时把做衣服的叫 “Tailor", 其实制作西装的应分 cutter (the architect of the suit, designs and its cut and then cuts of the pieces) and tailor (really puts the suit together. The English terms are "coat maker"). 据我所知，个别 Savile Row 传统老店现在也 offer less pricey custom made suits, of which the final tailoring work will be entirely done offshore - guess where - Mainland China.
